“Hi, I'm new to Scuba Board but want to post about our great dives with West End Divers on 4/7/09. We arrived with NCL cruise and I went with them after several emails back and forth about details with owner, Gary. They were recommended by Coconut Tree who didn't think their deep wreck dive would be suitable for the recently refreshed 15 year old divers in our family. We were picked up by their special driver Ismael who took both us (5) and a family of 4 also on the cruise to dive that morning.

Great! Hopefully only the 9 of us on board compared to the cruise cattle diving that cost more to boot! When we got there it got even better, the mother of that group wanted a refresher first and they ended up giving us each our own dive instructors and boat! We got paired with Mickey (DM) and Sam captain. Mickey was the perfect dive master for us. From the beginning he was laid back, attentive, good natured, and interactive. We loved our first dive where we got to see three turtles! He watched my three 15 year olds but never made them or us feel mother henned!

We stayed on board for surface interval which ended up being a good thing since on our second dive a storm blew in. We watched the rain fall from below but never guessed we'd be surfacing in 4 to 5 foot waves. Mickey and Sam were amazing getting us safely back on the small boat like this happened every day! My kids never had time to get anxious because they handled it beautifully.

Got back and Gary gave us fresh fruit and great recommendations for local roadside eating with Miss Jenny which was delicious! Ismael was also terrific - took us zip lining afterwards and even went back to get my forgotten hat at the dive shop. Taxis are steep on Roatan especially from cruise dock so we really appreciated his efforts and price which was 10 US per person round trip for our party of 5.

This was first time diving from a cruise and it worked out great. West end never made us feel like second class dive citizens!

Thanks guys”

I am a new diver, with only 8 logged dives, including certification before this trip - and none outside of lakes. My husband, who has over 100 logged dives, had also never been in salt water. We were vacationing with my sister and brother-in-law, who are experienced divers with 500+ dives each. After talking to several dives shops, we chose West End Divers. They offered dives pro-rated by quantity ($30/each after first 3), covered boats with 8 divers max, and tanks for shore-diving if we opted for that.

We completed 9 boat dives during our trip, ending with a great wreck dive on El Aguila. Our DM, Mickey, was fantastic at noticing tiny snails, seahorses, pipefish, and tongues. He was attentive to my needs as a new diver, help with weights and buoyancy especially. The boat captain, Jose, and DM's in training, Tyler and Ted, were so helpful in getting gear on and off the boat. Ted and Tyler, as well as several other training DM's, were responsible for maintaining all of our gear - washing it with fresh water, drying, and storing the pieces.

This was an awesome first trip experience for me, as well as an unbelievable dive vacation for my sister and her husband. They even mentioned that this was the best boat dive experience they'd ever had. Kudos and applause to West End Divers!

Thanks guys!”
